Chennai School, Reopens 10 Days After Gas Leak Chaos, Faces Another Gas Leak
Chennai: An incident of suspected gas leak took place at a private school in Tiruvottiyur area of North Chennai, with 7-10 students being hospitalised on Monday. The kids were admitted to different government as well as private hospitals. All of them were discharged on Tuesday morning, said the officials, adding that the kids are in stable condition now. The incident concerned the parents about their children’s safety as this was the second incident of alleged gas leak reported from a school in the area.
According to the police, the kids felt shortness of breath, dizziness and vomiting from the alleged gas leak. Following which, their parents first took them home, and then consulted with the doctors, subsequently hospitalising the kids.
Soon after the incident was reported, the police reached the school, and interrogated the school staff and the parents who staged a protest after the kids allegedly fell sick while attending classes. They have alleged that the school authorities did not give any clarification to them on the matter.
It must be noted that the school was shut down for 10 days, and was reopened on Monday after the first incident of alleged gas leak was reported on October 25. A report by The Hindu quoted a teacher, claiming that the staff smelled a strong odour that they started experiencing constriction in their throats. After which, they asked the students to go home. This happened at 10:40 am.
