Pune police seize and destroy 20 modified motorbike silencers, crushing them with a road roller to curb noise pollution

The Pune city police on Friday seized 20 heavy motorcycles due to their excessive noise and disturbance to the public. Officers removed the modified silencers used in the vehicles and crushed them under a road roller of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the Kondhwa area, the police said in a statement.
According to the police, the crackdown was initiated ahead of Ramadan, as it was observed that bikers using modified silencers are creating disturbances for senior citizens, patients with serious health problems, and school students preparing for the board examinations.
“All the bikers were fined Rs 2000 each. Their vehicles have also been seized for further legal action,” Rajkumar Shinde Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5), said.A senior police officer explained that some individuals replace the factory-fitted exhaust system of their two-wheeler or make some modifications that result in loud noise like that of bursting of firecrackers during the ride. The police have also released a video showing the crushing of the modified silencers of 20 motorcycles seized by the Kondhwa police station were crushed using a road roller.
