Western Railway train services in Mumbai disrupted for 13 hours due to ongoing bridge repair work

Mumbai News Live Updates: Train services on the Western Railway (WR) will be disrupted for 13 hours from 10 pm on March 1 to 11 am on March 2 due to re-girdering work on the British-era bridge number 5 between Mumbai Central and Grant Road stations. This is the second such disruption for the bridge repairs, following a similar block held in February. During the work, all up and down fast-line trains will be diverted to slow lines between Churchgate and Mumbai Central. As a result, some suburban train services will be either cancelled or short-terminated at Bandra and Dadar stations.

The Western Railway has announced that 26 services will be cancelled on Saturday night, followed by 142 cancellations on Sunday. In addition, 26 trains will be short-terminated at Dadar, and 72 services will be short-terminated at Bandra. Passengers are advised to expect delays of 15 to 30 minutes during this period.

MUMBAI  experiences slight relief from heatwave: After days of relentless heat, Mumbai woke up to a slight relief today. The city recorded a temperature of 28.06 °C, with humidity levels at 57%. The IMD forecasted minimum and maximum temperatures of 26.73 °C and 28.06 °C, respectively. The sky remained cloudy, providing some respite from the scorching heat. In terms of air quality, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has been recorded at 122, indicating a moderate level of pollution.

A week after violent clashes had stalled the plying of buses between Maharashtra and Karnataka, the state government has confirmed the re-appointment of state Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil from the BJP and Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai from the Shiv Sena as its nodal ministers for resolving the ongoing border dispute row between the two states. In the previous government also, the same ministers were in charge of the issue.

Meanwhile, former minister and SHIV SENA  (UBT) leader Subhash Desai on Friday wrote to Chief Ministerasking him to re-publish the new edition of the book ‘Maharashtra-Karnataka Seemavad: Sangharsh Aani Sankalp’, a detailed book published by the Maharashtra government in 2021 on the border dispute. Desai demanded that the new mass edition should have at least one lakh copies and must be distributed among the general public.

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), following a directive from the state government, has initiated work on 17 delayed Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects across the city. Among them, the Sai Baba Housing Society in Jogeshwari has received a Letter of Intent (LOI), while the remaining projects are in the documentation phase and will be processed accordingly, said MHADA’s vice-president and CEO, Sanjeev Jaiswal.

To accelerate redevelopment, MHADA will soon invite tenders for the first project and subsequently float tenders for the remaining ones to appoint contractors.

While opposition Congress will embark on a public outreach campaign against the alleged irregularities in the electoral rolls for the Maharashtra Assembly polls, its ally Nationalist Congress Party (SP) has announced to form a team to monitor the state government’s 100-day programme.

The NCP (SP) on Friday held a meeting of its senior leadership to chalk out the party strategy ahead of the upcoming Session of the state legislature. Party chief Sharad Pawar distributed responsibilities of various regions to senior leaders. Anil Deshmukh and Rajendra Shingne will be in-charge of Vidarbha while Marathawada region will be looked after by Rajesh Tope and Jaiprakash Dandegaonkar. In Western Maharashtra, Shashikant Shinde and Harshvardhan Patil will work while in Konkan, Sunil Bhusara and Jitendra Awhad will look after the party functioning.
