Ashok Mittal was born on 11 August 1962 in Phagwara, Punjab, India. He completed his schooling from Phagwara and later took admission in Guru Nanak Dev University for further studies and obtained a law degree. He has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree Honoris Causa by Atal Bihari Vajpayee University (ABVU) of Chhattisgarh.
