Astronaut daughter of a doctor father
Sunita Williams’ father’s name is Deepak Pandya. Deepak, a resident of Jhulasan village in Mehsana district of Gujarat, studied medicine from Ahmedabad and after that went straight to America. There he married a woman of Slovenian origin, from whom Sunita Williams was born. In childhood, Sunita was very fond of animals and because of this fondness, she decided to become a veterinarian. She had also applied for this, but she could not get her favorite college.
Then in 1983, she joined the US Naval Academy and in 1987, she got a degree in Physics, which became the first step towards her success. After completing her training at the Naval Academy, she became a pilot and flew many types of aircraft. Meanwhile, one day she got a chance to visit the Johnson Space Center, which gave a different direction to her life. There she met astronaut John Young, who became the 9th person to go to the moon. Sunita was very impressed by him and was so impressed that she decided to become an astronaut.
NASA had rejected it
According to media reports, after meeting John Young, Sunita Williams applied to NASA to become an astronaut, but she was rejected. After this, in 1995, she took a master’s degree in engineering management from the Florida Institute of Technology and applied to NASA again. This time she was selected, but she had to wait a long time to go to space. After about 8 years, in 2006, she got a chance to go to space and with this she became the second woman of Indian origin to become an astronaut.
