How did this boy who did PhD from Jamia gain entry into Hamas?

Badar Khan Suri of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, who has connections with Hamas in America, has been arrested. Badar Khan Suri is pursuing research from Georgetown University. American police say that Badar was constantly involved in anti-Semitic movements, due to which he has been arrested.

 

If Badar does not get relief from the US court, he can be sent back to India. Officials say that Badar had gone to America to study on a student visa.

Who is Badar Khan Suri?

Badar Khan Suri, originally from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, has completed his master’s and PhD degrees from Jamia Millia Islamia University. Badar’s subject in PhD was peace and conflict. On LinkedIn, Badar has described himself as an expert on peace matters.

According to Badar, in 2009 he came to study at Jamia Millia University, where he stayed till 2020. In 2022, he went to study in Georgetown, America. Badar has also written several articles in support of Palestine on a website called Middle East Monitor.

How did you make inroads into Hamas?

According to Politico, the US police came into action after a report by the Middle East Forum. The report said that Badar was constantly targeting the Israeli police and the government through his social media.

The report talked about his contact with senior Hamas leader Yusuf Ahmed. Yusuf Ahmed is a big leader of Hamas and has been an advisor to the former head of the organization Ismail Haniyeh. The report said that Badar has met Yusuf on several occasions.

How did you come in contact with Yusuf?

In 2012, during his studies, Badar became friends with Yusuf’s daughter Mafaz. In an interview, Badar said- Mafaz used to translate my work. We both gradually came into a relationship. In 2014, I proposed marriage to her.

According to Badar, Mafaz’s family, especially his father Yusuf, initially rejected the proposal. After this, Mafaz and I went to Gaza to convince them. The two then talked and the relationship was finalized.

Badar and Mafaz got married in Delhi in 2014. Mafaz has also studied at the Center for Contemporary Department of Georgetown University. Mafaz also lives in America now.
