How A Mobile Snatching Attempt Led To A Deadly Stabbing In Delhi
New Delhi: A 38-year-old man was stabbed to death while trying to prevent a snatcher from taking his friend’s phone in the Karol Bagh area, police reported on Thursday. The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday into Thursday when Mukesh Jha, along with his female friend, was returning home after dining at a restaurant.
Authorities received information early Thursday morning about the stabbing and phone snatching near Naiwala Chowk in Karol Bagh. A senior police officer stated that a team was dispatched to the scene, where it was determined that the pair had been returning from a restaurant in Beadon Pura.
As they walked past Sat Brahwa School, three individuals approached and attempted to snatch a mobile phone from Mukesh’s female friend. Mukesh intervened, leading to a scuffle during which one of the assailants stabbed him, snatched the phone, and fled the scene.
Mukesh was rushed to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Originally from Nepal, Mukesh had been living in a rented accommodation in West Delhi’s Mohan Garden and is survived by his wife and parents in Nepal. He operated a roadside jeans shop in the Tank Road area of Karol Bagh.
The incident was captured on CCTV, which is currently being reviewed by police. Witnesses reported seeing the attack but did not intervene. Based on his friend’s statement, an FIR has been filed under sections 103(1) (murder), 309(6) (causing hurt while committing or attempting robbery), and 3(5) (acting with common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Karol Bagh police station.
“We have formed multiple teams and checked the CCTV footage from the restaurant to the crime scene. The crime team and forensic experts were called on the spot. An investigation is being taken up,” said the officer.
