5 MBBS students killed after SUV rams into bus

Five medical students were killed and six others were seriously injured in Kerala’s Alappuzha when the SUV they were travelling in collided with a bus on Monday night.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 9.30 pm when the first-year MBBS students of Government T D Medical College, Alappuzha, were heading towards a movie theatre. There was heavy rain at the time and the Chevrolet Tavera skidded and swerved to the wrong side before hitting a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus heading towards Kayamkulam, the police said, quoting eyewitnesses.

Three of the students died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Devanandan from Malappuram, Sreedev Valsan from Palakkad, Ayush Shaji from Kottayam, Abdul Jabbar from Kannur, and Muhammed Ibrahim from Lakshadweep.

Of the six injured, the condition of two is said to be serious. All the students were 19 years old, the police said.
