College student killed in machete attack, two held

A 17-YEAR-OLD college student was hacked to death in a machete attack by two assailants while he was on his way to college in Ramtekdi area of Pune on Tuesday morning. Police said the attack was a fallout of a past dispute between the deceased and one of the assailants.

Police identified the deceased as Yash Sunil Ghate (17), a resident of Ramtekdi and a former student of a local junior college. Police have arrested two suspects identified as Sahil Latif Shaikh (18) and Tahir Khalil Pathan (18), both college dropouts and residents of the same locality where the deceased lived.

“Investigation has revealed that Shaikh and Ghate had a dispute in the past over a petty issue. On Tuesday morning, Ghate was on his way to college around 7 am. Shaikh and Pathan attacked him with sharp machetes. Ghate received multiple blows to the head which proved fatal,” said an officer who is part of the investigation.
