A sub-inspector has been arrested by the police for allegedly aiding the murderers of a Delhi businessman

Two months after a 52 year man gunned down in Shahdara’s Farsh Bazar by two bike-borne men over “mistaken identity”, the Delhi Police said they have arrested a sub-inspector for allegedly harbouring and providing financial assistance to the assailants.

A senior officer of the Special Cell said they arrested Sukbhir Singh, 45, posted with the North East District, after the counter-intelligence unit probing the murder investigation of Sunil Jain found evidence against him. “The case was initially registered by the Farsh Bazar police station, and was transferred to the CI. This is the first arrest made by the delhi  Police in connection with Jain’s murder. He was arrested on Sunday afternoon and currently, he is in four-days police custody,” the officer said.

Singh was posted with the special staff, and was sent to district lines after it came to the fore that he along with other police personnel provided assistance to gangster Hashim Baba when he came to their office in police custody. He got an out-of-turn promotion Jain, who owned a utensils business, was gunned down by Naveen Kasana and Sachin Golu in Farsh Bazar on December 8, 2024, when he was returning home from a morning walk at the Yamuna Sports Complex. “The real target was the father of a juvenile, who allegedly plotted the murder of a property dealer and his 16-year-old nephew on Diwali. The plot resulted in Anil alias Sonu Matka gunning down Akash Sharma alias Chotu (40) and his nephew Rishabh Sharma in Farsh Bazar. Sonu Matka is a member of the Hashim Baba gang,” an officer said.

“Jain’s shooter Golu was upset and wanted to take revenge, as he considered Akash Sharma his brother. Chotu was known to give financial support to not just Golu but others as well,” the officer added.
