5-year-old boy succumbs after falling into borewell in Jhalawar

The 5-year-old boy, who fell into a borewell in Paraliya village under Dug police station in Gangdhar sub-division of Jhalawar district on Sunday noon and became trapped at a depth of 32 feet, was discovered deceased early Monday morning after about 16 hours of rescue operations by the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force.
The rescue squads of NDRF and SDRF managed to retrieve the trapped boy using a hook (Jugad – local device) at approximately 4 am on Monday morning.
However, tragically, the boy already succumbed by that time, Sub Divisional Magistrate Gangdhar, Chhatarpal Choudhary, stated on Monday morning. The medical team present on-site pronounced the boy deceased after examination.
The rescue operation with available resources commenced approximately an hour after the boy accidentally slipped into the borewell at around 1.15 on Sunday noon. It was subsequently joined by NDRF and SDRF in the afternoon and continued for approximately 16 hours, the SDM stated
he boy was provided oxygen through a pipe and requisite medical assistance promptly, and the rescue operation remained active throughout. However, he did not survive, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the area, Jaiprakash Atal, stated. The post-mortem examination is currently underway.
The boy’s parents submitted an accidental report regarding the incident, and accordingly, a case will be registered under 194 of BNS for further investigation, the DSP added.
The 5-year-old boy, identified as Prahalad, son of Kalulal Bagariya, resident of Paraliya village under Dug police station in Jhalawar district, fell into the borewell in the field whilst his parents were occupied elsewhere in the field on Sunday noon.
The boy was reportedly perched on the stone slab covering the open end of the borewell when he accidentally slipped along with the stone into the 12-inch width borewell and became trapped at approximately 32 feet depth, with his voice being audible for some time afterwards.
According to the deceased boy’s father, Kalulal, the approximately 200 feet deep borewell was drilled merely two days prior, and when no water emerged from the depth, it was decided to decommission the borewell, and accordingly, its depth was being filled.
