Maharashtra tourist succumbs to injuries in Shimla hotel blaze

tourist from Maharashtra was charred to death after a fire broke out in a hotel room in the Kachi Ghati area of Shimla, police Saturday said.

Police identified the victim as Ritesh Pudale, 24, from Sangli district of Maharashtra. Pudale was sleeping in a room on the first floor of the hotel when the fire broke out around 11 pm on Friday. Two of his friends, Avdhoot Patil and Ashish, who were also asleep in the same room, managed to run out. Pudale, however, was trapped and burnt alive.

The cause of the fire is being ascertained, they said, adding a case has been registered against the owner of the hotel based on complaint filed by Ashish.Avdhoot and Ashish, who were admitted to hospital after sustaining burns, told the police that they had checked in to the hotel on Friday noticing the blaze, the hotel management informed the fire department. It took two fire tenders four hours to controlled the blaze. The police recovered the burnt body of Pudale. It has been kept in the mortuary at IGMC, shimla , for the postmortem examination, police said, adding Pudale’s family has been informed.
